Two lover shrines in Bangkok

Each week we post a link to an article in Bangkok 101 and this time it is about something quirky in Bangkok. (Original articles by Joe Cummings and Jim Algie)

The Trimurti Shrine
The Trimurti Shrine was built in 1989 and if you look carefully you can see that the statue is three different Hindu deities standing cheek by jowl on a raised platform and protected by a decorated dome. It is a popular location on Thursdays in the late evening for single women because this is the time that the deities will descend from heaven to hear their prayers.

You may have love and are looking for fertility

The Tuptim Shrine
The original shrine was originally surrounded by a plethora of wooden phalluses in all shapes and sizes and apparently, prayer here would lead to pregnancy. Today the setting has become changed and is now in the Nai Lert Park – and is less chaotic and more tasteful.

If you have all this, then we suggest you take your loved one around the corner to Cape House for something to eat. Even if you don’t we still suggest you indulge yourself and visit us here.
