Cape and Kantary - The Grill Room

Cape+Kantary is a magazine that you will find in all the Cape and Kantary Properties - . In this edition - Pages 55-57 one writer visited KantaryHotel in Korat for a succulent steak.

Should you find yourself with a hankering for a steak, don’t hesitate to check out TheGrill Room. This is the city’s premier rooftop steakhouse, it features not only the best meat and cocktails that the town has to offer, but also spectacular views of Korat in sophisticated surroundings.

Try beef in all its iterations – flavourful tartare, delicate carpaccio, a giant grilled Porterhouse – as well as seafood and Thai dishes. Definitely worth a detour if you’re in the area; even yet, why not plan a whole trip around this budding dining destination at Kantary Hotel Korat ?

It’s certainly a welcome change of scenery from your usual steakhouses.

Road trip to the Thai-Myanmar border

Each week we post a link to an article in Bangkok101 -  and today’s article is about a roadtrip to the Thai-Myanmar border.

Their first stop was at the River Kwai Bridge - in the Kanchanaburi Province and the aptly named ‘Death Railway’ (Location: https://goo.gl/maps/iUNaecP78Kz)

Lunch was at X2 River Kwai.

Then the journey took them along Highway 323 which finished in Sangkhlaburi and the Tanintharyi Mountain range between Thailand and Myanmar. From there they went to the Sai Yok National Park (where fans of The Deer Hunter will recall the ‘roulette scenes’ taking place).

The next stop was Wat Khao Khe. This translates into ‘Crocodile Mountain’ (location: https://goo.gl/maps/X5Srppcwdww) because it is near to a cave where ‘Chao Pho Khao’ lived – a half crocodile half human hermit!

Then they took the car again whilst the sun began to set and stayed at ThongphaphumPlace.

BUT if you want to read the original article please read it here.

Sriracha - Only a two hour journey from Bangkok

Cape+Kantary is a magazine that you will find in all the Cape and Kantary Properties - https://www.capekantaryhotels.com.

In this edition - https://www.capekantaryhotels.com/ckmagazine/Issue16/index.html - (Pages 74-77) one writer visited Kantary Bay in Sriracha and took a trip. Original words by Jim Algie.

Sriracha – “Only a two hour journey from Bangkok, in an area free of the usual tourist hordes, the Eastern seaboard beckons with outdoor adventures, picturesque islands, sites of spiritual significance and great food.”

This was their trip

Breakfast at Kantary Bay Sriracha - https://www.kantarycollection.com/kantarybay-sriracha/

Khao Kheow Open Zoo - https://goo.gl/maps/tqjTbRTxSU32 - where the animals are in areas which are spacious and accommodating, ample photo opportunities – we did not try the Flying Fox - https://goo.gl/maps/BFfjTzhe1B72 - this time but maybe next time?

Take a lunch break in Sriracha – try the chicken roasted in earthenware jugs (gai op ong), usually found hanging by the side of the road, don’t forget the papaya salad and sticky rice!

Take a trip to Koh Sichang – just 40 minutes on the local ferry, followed by a tour of the island (try the 3-wheeled samlor – which is called a ‘Skylab’)

Then a coffee and a cake at the Somewhere Hotel - https://somewherehotel.com.

Then a visit to the waterfront – the Asdang Pier - http://phrachudadhuj.com/chudad11.htm -  and the Health Park - https://goo.gl/maps/qJKJdrsHguj.

Then it was time to return and have dinner at Le Marin Mediterranean Restaurant - https://caperacha.com/lemarin.php.

How to survive an overnight train ride

Cape+Kantary is a magazine that you will find in all the Cape and Kantary Properties. In every edition, there is always an article that we like to share

In this edition - https://www.capekantaryhotels.com/ckmagazine/Issue15/index.html - (Pages 54-55) one writer chose to travel on the train overnight in Thailand. Original text courtesy of Trevor Ranges.

Fine Print - Book ahead and at the station, weekends can be busy, try and take a toilet break as soon as possible and bring your own sanitizer and tissues (just in case)

Etiquette - Wear headphones, be careful of your feet, choose a higher sleeping bunk (unless you are in First Class of course) BUT other people don’t always do this.

Food - bring your own, onboard dining is a bit hit and miss, there is always a number of food vendors who hop on and off the trains - BUT currently no alcohol.

Entertainment - is out of the window! - there is none offered (although some are offering WiFi) so you need to pack with a little thought and all those cables and batteries - BUT do not play cards, even solitaire.

Dress - 2nd and 3rd class get a little hot, so something loose would be ideal. 1st class can become a little cold so wrap up warm. In both cases slip on/off shoes would be ideal
